European Humanist Forum

Area of “Cultures, Migration, International Cooperation”

Life is a kaleidoscope: colours, shapes, figures, sparkle, a thousand and more suggestions floating in the air, a thousand and more promises expanding in each turn and wondering us. This is the breath that lives us up, the amazing History of our continent, Europe.

The new and old Europe, in constant construction drinks from the fountain of utopia of the hundreds of cultures intermingled, enriching each other with a common goal: happiness. Ours is a time of change: migrations are growing and new challenges overflow obsolete politics, those subject to market dictates. And yet, this time of change is the best opportunity to open the debate on a better world. A world based on coexistence and mutual understanding, a world where cultural interchange is recognized as a contribution rather than a problem.

This is a call of the area of “Cultures, Migration, International Cooperation” of the European Humanist Forum (http://www.humanistforum.eu). The humanist forums regard this area to drive the process of cultural interchange and to promote critical and constructive discussion among social organizations, networks, parties or all those people that cannot regard the human being as mere merchandise and their culture as products. We believe that this dialogue, oriented to share experiences and to work as a sound box of critical thought, will be the first step to the construction of new channels to revolutionize this world, petrified and dehumanized by the neoliberal economic discourse.

We defend the recognition of equal rights and opportunities for all as the main guarantee of a common future. Can a society be regarded as such if those who are denied the right to vote and have access to basics such as health services or education, are in turn requested to pay taxes and comply with rules?

We request an International Cooperation really compromised with the progress of countries. An International Cooperation away from the current market and away from patronage. An International Cooperation that gives people real opportunities to make a living in their countries of origin.

This is an open group, a meeting point, a forum open to initiatives and proposals that aspires to share ideas. For the moment, the network will work as a virtual bridge for the exchange of ideas that will take place once a month. We will walk together towards the Milan Forum in October 2008. This will be the meeting point of all representatives in Europe for the areas of immigration, culture and international cooperation, seen from and for the human being.

We aspire to making this dialogue a determined contribution in the construction of a Human Universal Culture: the Culture of Non-violence.
